Hello!
The HyFlex Learning Community (HLC) has been online and active for almost two months now, with approximately 250 registered members. We also completed our first week-long Hyflex Course Design workshop with several dozen members participating in learning, discussing, and planning the initial stages of HyFlex course design; some planning their own localized faculty development for HyFlex implementation. It is encouraging to see the diversity of professionals engaging in this effort and how we can work together to meet our shared goal to expand high quality equitable access to learning opportunities for all students.
Research Opportunity for Students
One aspect of our community practice is leading and participating in research exploring the HyFlex course design and its impact on various aspects of learning and teaching. As we become aware of, or launch our own research opportunities, we’ll highlight those on the site and provide information and ask for your involvement as appropriate.
Here’s the first opportunity!
Research Participation Opportunity
Ricardo Flores, a HyFlex Learning Community member and a doctoral student at San Francisco State University is conducting a study about equity in HyFlex for his dissertation and he is in the process of recruiting participants for the study. He is looking to interview students who have completed at least one college-level (graduate or undergraduate is fine) HyFlex course at a college or university in the United States. For more details, please read the Research Participant Recruitment Script (link URL - https://docs.google.com/document/d/10WPR9u-ocSZWd_oDhW6KNzNey-argnIH68ykTQaG-AU/edit?usp=sharing).
If you have any questions or would like to participate in the research, Ricardo can be reached at 650.303.7796 or by email at mflores24@mail.sfsu.edu.
Gathering Online July 9, 2021
We are hosting our second HyFlex Learning Community gathering (online) on July 9, 2021 from 9:00am-10:00am PT. This month, we'll discuss and brainstorm ways we can support students as they make choices about how they'll participate in their HyFlex courses. What guidance is needed? What are students likely to use? How can the HyFlex Learning Community support site support faculty and designers in developing support resources? Bring your ideas, resources and questions as we launch a collaborative effort to create effective and shareable student support resources for the community.
We are using the GoToMeeting web conferencing system and have capacity for approximately 250 participants. To reserve a seat, please use this Eventbrite link [https://hyflexlearning-july2021.eventbrite.com] to register for the webinar and receive the event link through email. The gathering event is open to all who register - members and future members alike :)
