Welcome to February 2023! Many more students are benefiting from flexible learning opportunities around the world, thanks to the efforts of faculty, designers and administrators who are working very hard to support more access to high-quality, equitable learning opportunities in courses using approaches such as HyFlex.
Is anyone talking about the use of AI writing tools on your campus? We certainly are. I decided to try out one of the tools provided by OpenAI to see what it would say about HyFlex course design and how it would answer four common questions. Read the most recent blog post on the HyFlex Learning Community blog for the results! (post also linked below)
As enrollments in many institutions remain much lower than goals (5%, 15%, even 25% or more below target), even the highest levels of institutional leadership are rethinking their push for everyone to return to campus and the accompanying restrictions on offering courses with online options. Students haven't responded to an "all in-person" offer like some expected them to.
Our work to support each other in improving our practices and to provide information and guidance to those just becoming interested in flexible learning (HyFlex, Multi-access, BlendFlex, etc.) is more important than ever. See below for ways you can be involved in the work and share these opportunities in your own network.
HyFlex Collaborative Conference and the next HyFlex Learning Community Gathering Webinar
Topic: HyFlex Collaborative Conference coming this June! How can you participate?
Date/time: February 17, 2023, 9:00 am – 10:30 am PT.
Many institutions, faculty, designers and students have been offering and experiencing hybrid flexible (HyFlex) learning opportunities for a decade or more, with even more turning to HyFlex during the pandemic for learning continuity. And now we are planning for more flexible offerings as we reshape the future of education at all levels. In June 2023, we will gather with several hundred educators in person and online for the inaugural HyFlex Collaborative Conference. This conference is a collaboration between the HyFlex Learning Community and the Academy for the Advancement of Teaching, Leadership and Schools (AATLAS) at the School of Education, University at Albany, Albany NY. This webinar explains the vision and themes for the conference and ways to be involved as a presenter, attendee, or sponsor.
